The ever fleeting Muse.

It's been a while! It's very frustrating working somewhere they're that security conscious that they won't let you take home work you do on your dev pc, as it's not connected to the internet, and requires the permission of a Senior managment member to transfer to a network that does have net access. *pfft* I have lots of doodles, sketches and practices that I just can't show, as I have no way of getting them on the net. Aside from this craptacular method, of taking a pic with my newfangled iphone 4.

However, I am kind of excited by the way this piece is going. This photo misses so much of the subtlety it's not funny, but even here you can see the kind of old master feel I'm going for. It'll eventually be a piece based on the Grimm Bros fairy tale about a young girl who looks after her brother who is turned into a fawn, and braves the king's hunt each day.

There's also a couple of other wips, a piece started for the Muse challenge on ArtOrder, a piece started for Chow 200 (Queen of music) and some more random sketches of stylised characters.

Mayan heavy wip

And another quick wip, this time for a project that a few fellow workmates are part of. Hoping it will eventually be a really cool 3D animation.

I wish I were at DragonCon

I really do. In the meanwhile, here's some more stuff from me. I worked on these ages ago, just playing around with various stylisations and trying to figure out how I enjoy working - a couple are a little runescape-based - it'd be fun to see stuff in this style! I really love thumbnailing with this particular process. Still trying to get to grips with more harsh lighting conditions and stronger colours, as seen in the last piece, but not convinced it's working.

Studies studies studies

If there's one thing that being a full time concepter has made me realise, it's that I can't ever drop the ball. So I've been slowly trying to improve my understanding of environments. I'm never going to be the next whit brachna, or ryan church, but it'd be nice to have a vague understanding of how they do what they do. So I've been studying as and when I have the motivation - usually at lunchtimes. Here's a couple of the studies I've done recently. All of these have no ref... I've not got the studies I've been doing from reference... but I have been doing them. The last thumbnail sheet was me trying to figure out what my compulsions with composition are... and I know I tend to like having things in the bottom right corner to anchor an image, so now I can try to break that habit, see if I get better results. The black and white enviro and the train track one were both done using Levente's speed painting technique: http://vimeo.com/8288200 . Also, a sneak peek at a wip of my demon, Luce, ramped up, thanks to Darksiders being awesome.

Getting the ball rollin'

Here's to a healthy blog relationship. To start a study and some quickie environment thumbnail practices.
